FaScial Stretch Therapy®

Fascial Stretch Therapy® (FST) is an assisted stretching technique unlike anything you have ever experienced before. Over the past twenty years, FST® has been proven to enhance function, reduce pain, and improve elite and professional athletic performance.

Trained by the founders of Fascial Stretch Therapy® in the USA, our Level 3 Fascial Stretch Specialist® is one of just a handful of practitioners in Australia.

What makes FST® so different from traditional static stretching or Yoga is that you will gain a range of motion and flexibility without the pain that is often associated with traditional stretching.

So, how does it work? You first need to understand that 47% of your tightness &/or stiffness comes from your joint capsule. During your FST® treatment we use a gentle but firm traction to target the stiffness or compression in your joint capsule which then results in the release of surrounding tissues.

Your next most limiting structure in terms of flexibility is your muscle/fascia – it provides 41% of your resistance to flexibility. How do we most effectively target this structure? Well, we need to take a closer look at fascia and understand what it is. “Fascia (superficial fascia) is a flexible connective tissue structure that attaches under your skin and covers your entire body. Picture it as a thick fishnet stocking through which nerves, blood vessels, fluids and fat can all pass. There is then a firmer and deeper layer of fascia – myofascia – that wraps itself in and around every muscle and continues to extend outward, attaching to every tendon, ligament and bone.

This layer is like a tight-knit stocking that surrounds and invests muscles.

“Because myofascia connects muscle fibre to muscle fibre and larger muscle groups to other groups, a person can never just stretch one isolated muscle.” (Stretch to Win, Ann & Chris Frederick).  Your sessions focus on lines of connective tissue and muscle to create change in your flexibility.

When we manipulate, lengthen and reorganize the muscles and connective tissues in your body, we create a neurological change. Because your brain is “King” we guide it to the correct pathways, giving you the flexibility you need. Incorporating your breathing rhythm into the session, we ask your nervous system for permission to let go and reorganize the soft tissue of the body.

Your flexibility will improve in just one fascial stretch therapy session, and the benefits are cumulative with multiple sessions.
